Drivers who like going fast - or just anyone willing to spend a little extra - will be able to get a NASCAR plate under a bill passed unanimously by the Senate.
Most of the money from the sales of the plate would go to NASCAR charitable organizations and to promote car racing-based tourism in Florida.
The bill (SB 1900) also would create a plate urging the protection of Florida springs, one that proclaims “Trees are Cool,” one to benefit the Corrections Foundation charity and one that would say “Support Our Troops.”
The measure, which now goes to the House, also would create the Gold Star license plate to honor family members of military personnel killed in action. Only surviving spouses or parents of the fallen would be able to have those plates.
There are more than 100 specialty plates in Florida.
