ST. PETERSBURG - A man trying to help a neighbor was killed when the neighbor’s car rolled over him Friday night, police said.
Keith David Dabrowski, 44, was walking his dog along 58th Avenue South at about 9:30 p.m. when he stopped to talk with Richard McCrory, 62, police said.
McCrory had driven his 2007 BMW into his garage and placed the vehicle in neutral instead of park. He was trying to plug his cell phone into a charger when Dabrowski arrived at 4973 58th Ave. S.
McCrory got out of the car to talk to Dabrowski. The BMW rolled out of the garage toward them and both men tried to stop it.
McCrory stepped out from behind the vehicle, but Dabrowski was pushed into the street, where he lost his footing and the car rolled over him, police said. When firefighters freed him from under the right rear axle, he was pronounced dead.
An investigation is continuing, police said.
