TAMPA—MTV Networks will donate money to the family of slain football player Cedric “C.J.” Mills and to Jefferson High School in his memory, a director for the company said today.
“It’s the least we could do,” said Andrew Huang, who has been filming on the Jefferson High School campus since Tuesday.
Huang said he and his crew are filming a special capturing the week leading up to the school prom. The school’s grief over Mills’ death likely will become part of that program, he said.
Mills, 17, died Wednesday after being shot outside his home at 4219 W. Laurel St. Police are looking for two gunmen and the light-green or gray, newer-model Chrysler used. Police Maj. George McNamara said detectives are working around the clock.
Huang did not know if he could reveal the monetary amount to be donated.
This is not the first time an MTV crew has captured an unfolding story. Huang said he was filming a show at the 2001 Daytona 500 race where Dale Earnhardt died.
