Moms Took Kids Drug Shopping, Deputies Say

PLANT CITY - Rather than leave their children with a sitter, two east Hillsborough mothers took three small children on a marijuana shopping trip Wednesday night, a decision that put the women behind bars, authorities said.
Hillsborough County sheriff’s detectives said Susan Machado, 31, of Plant City, and Amanda Bronson, 25, of Dover, drove the children to a known drug house where the women planned to buy marijuana.
On Wednesday, Machado and Bronson had phoned an undercover detective and made arrangements to buy $70 worth of marijuana from him at 7322 Knights Griffin Road, according to arrest reports.
The women arrived at 7:20 p.m. with Machado’s two children and Bronson’s 2-year-old son in the car.
Machado told detectives that she “only occasionally” takes her children with her when she buys marijuana, an arrest report said.
Detectives charged the women with felony child neglect. Bronson and Machado posted $7,500 and $15,000 bail, respectively, Thursday morning and were released from Orient Road Jail.

This is a bigger epidemic than you think! Do most people get there drugs delivered? I think not ....I agree that purchasing pot in general is illegal but seriosly you can drink beer at Chuck E Cheese and then drive your little ones home ..Child Endagerment Nobody cares...people will get their fix regardless,to go as far as entrapment???? Thats not right either.
...I see at least 20-30 moms smoking cigarrettes in front of there children in cars everyday isnt that child endangerment? nobody does a thing about that!
perhaps lets get these moms help
What kind of programs are there? Do they provide child care? there are so many underlying issues when it comes to pot usage I beleive depression / stress is to blame ..why else would 2 moms with responsibilities do this?

Please do not let it happen again its not something you want your children doing now is it?  Get Help!

i would comment on this but then i would sound cruel even to myself. why can’t we just pray the those children don’t have to be put in the dcf system. and thank God that they weren’t being hurt or were hurt at this time.

Legalize marijuana. Criminalize entrapment. Don’t harrass and humiliate harmless young mothers, and take money away from them and their children in the form of legal fines.

So why were they charged with child neglect and not attempting to buy drugs?

Another fine example of Grade A parents this world holds in it. YAY! And to think of all the parents who are being told they are medically not able to have children.

The purchase of liquor is legal and therefore is not child neglect to bring a child during purchase. An open container and/or drinking while driving is illegal and having children in the car while commiting said illegal act is child neglect.

The use of, sale of, and/or purchase of illegal drugs is that, illegal so therefore having your children with you during one of one or more of those acts is child neglect.

How about a law that if you are a parent with a child or children and you attend a public eating establishment that the eating establishment is only allowed to serve you a limited amount of alcohol or none at all due to have said child(ren) with you at that time.

Wow talk about child protection, seems a bit extreme doesn’t it.

Are you Kidding me.  What did they do wrong?  Taking your children on an illegal drug buy is putting them in danger period. Anyone that needed a substance so bad they would place their children in a car and drive to make a drug deal must have a severe addiction.  This is a perfect story for people who say marijuana is not an addictive substance.

So how many child neglect arrests were made on people who take their children to the liquor store?

I don’t condone what they did, they should have left one parent to watch the children.  But it doesn’t say they were driving while using or using in front of the children.  So how is this neglect?  Were there firearms present?  Any direct threat to the children?
