PLANT CITY - A 36-year-old man was charged Monday in the slaying of a man at a makeshift homeless camp.
Paulino Hernandez was charged with second-degree murder in the slaying of a man whom detectives still were trying to identify Tuesday, Plant City police Sgt. Jim Schultz said.
The man’s body was found about 2:30 p.m. Sunday in a wooded area behind a shopping plaza at 1864 James L. Redman Parkway.
The victim was found face-down on a mattress with wounds to his head and torso, according to a police affidavit. The nature of the wounds led investigators to conclude the victim was hacked to death with a machete, the affidavit said.
It was unclear why the victim was attacked. The investigation is expected to end within the next few days, Schultz said.
Hernandez, who had no permanent address, was being held without bail Tuesday at Orient Road Jail.
John,
I apologize, I rely too much on spell check. I am not as much of the idiot that you assume I am.
Look at his arrest record on HCSO.com. BURGLARY OF A STRUCTURE/BURGLARY OF A STRUCTURE/BURGLARY OF A STRUCTURE/FALSE NAME TO LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER/TRESPASS ON PROP OTHER THAN STRUCTURE/and finally MURDER IN THE SECOND DEGREE. His birthplace is listed as Mexico on each of these records. An arrest record is not proof of guilt, however, how many times does he need to get arrested to determine that he is a problem? Do you have any suggestions?
I have friends who work at the detention facility for INS. Folks do get sent back to thier county (Mexico and others)when they have become a criminal problem.
As bigoted as it may sound - if he does not have legal presence(I spell checked that one!)-send him back.
Wendy,
You sound like an idiot. We should send you back to middle school so you can learn how to spell simple words like ILLEGAL. Don’t show your ignorance. Oh, and just ‘cause someone’s last name is Hernandez doesn’t mean that they are from Mexico and are illegal aliens (or ill eagles). I understand this guy killed someone and I am not sticking up for him. I am sticking up for the innocent people that you view in this way.
This is why folks don’t want illeagle aliens in our country. He has been arrested multiple times in Hillsborough County alone, no address (probably homeless-or just wont say where he lives) and born in Mexico (probably no papers-no id-no anything). Why doesn’t he get deported?
Send him back and let Mexico take care of him.
