TAMPA - A man who fled to Mexico in 2003 after being suspected of killing one man and wounding another in Wimauma was held without bail at Orient Road Jail Tuesday, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.

Cesar Lemus, 21, surrendered to authorities at the Mexican border last week on four felony warrants for his arrest, sheriff’s spokeswoman Debbie Carter said. Authorities returned Lemus to Hillsborough County early Tuesday, where he was booked on one count of second-degree murder and three counts of attempted murder.

According to Carter, Lemus was a suspect in the June 2003 shooting death of Juan Jose Longoria, 23, of Wimauma and the wounding of Arturo Garcia, then 26, also of Wimauma. Longoria and Garcia were at an intersection in a 2003 PT Cruiser when they got into a verbal argument with other men that escalated into a gunfight, Carter said.
