TAMPA - A 25-year-old Riverview man is facing two felony charges after having consensual sex with a 15-year-old girl, authorities said.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday charged Jason A. Easterling with lewd and lascivious battery and child abuse for impregnating a minor, sheriff’s spokeswoman Debbie Carter said.
The 15-year-old’s mother notified authorities on Jan. 31 after learning her daughter was pregnant, Carter said. The mother had noticed the girl had been gaining weight, and the girl admitted to having had sex with Easterling, Carter said.
Easterling and the teenager were not dating, but the sex was consensual, Carter said.
Sheriff’s investigators interviewed everyone involved and turned over the information to the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s office, which decided to file criminal charges against Easterling, Carter said.
A lawn-care worker, Easterling was released from a Hillsborough County jail on Wednesday after posting $9,500 bail, records show.
