ST. PETERSBURG - A 27-year-old St. Petersburg man who has been on life support since he crashed his motorcycle early Tuesday has died, authorities said.
Kyle L. Lachowski, of 9943 14th St. N., No. 2402, was disconnected from life support Wednesday night, said St. Petersburg police spokesman George Kajtsa.
Lachowski was riding a 2005 Honda motorcycle just after midnight early Tuesday when he tried making a turn from Gandy Boulevard onto Martin Luther King Jr. St. N., traffic homicide investigators have said.
He braked with the right wheel and started to slide, investigators said. When he left off the rear brake, the motorcycle flipped over onto its left side, throwing Lachowski onto the median, they said.
Lachowski, who was not wearing a helmet, struck his head on a curb.
He was with the U.S. Coast Guard, and was involved in several rescues.
