Assets Forfeiture Distribution Table

TAMPA – The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida recovered more than $16 million in assets forfeited by criminal defendants last year, officials announced today.
A total of $8.6 million was returned to local and state law enforcement agencies, including nearly $500,000 to Bay area agencies, said U.S. Attorney Paul I. Perez in a news release.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office received more than $110,000 in cash and property and the Tampa Police Department was given more than $32,000.
Approximately $275,000 was used to compensate fraud victims.
Much of the remainder is being held for disbursement to victims later this year.
“Returning money and property to our partners in local and state law enforcement is a very satisfying feeling. They deserve this reward for assisting us in recovering these ill-gotten properties and cash. We will continue to reach into the pocketbook of those who break the law and make them pay for their misdeeds,” Perez said.
More than 200 forfeiture laws have been enacted targeting organized crime, drug trafficking, money laundering, and other crimes.
