The Tampa Tribune
TAMPA – Former Bucs quarterback Shaun King has a workout scheduled with the team for this afternoon.
King, who replaced an injured Trent Dilfer as a rookie and then led them to the NFC title game in 1999, said he will meet with the team around 1 p.m. and likely work out around 3 p.m.
“They finally called me this morning,’’ King told The Tribune. “I’m ready to go. I’m in shape and ready to help out if they need me.’’
King came into the league as second-round draft pick out of Tulane and made an almost immediate impact, starting the final five regular games of the 1999 regular season.
He remained the starter through all of 2000, leading the Bucs back to the playoffs, but the team’s loss in the first round to Philadelphia sparked a change for 2001.
As Brad Johnson’s backup, King played in just three games in 2001. He remained a backup during the 2002 and 2003 seasons but moved on to Arizona in 2004.
King last worked for the Indianapolis Colts during the preseason, but he was let go when the Colts decided to keep just two quarterbacks on their roster.
I think it’s time to start thinking about drafting Brady Quinn..
While King was at Tampa he had a different offensive coordinator each year AND some rather poor offensive game plans! He’s mighty good insurance IMHO.
I dont know why some people are complaining about King returning, as i remember he had a winning record as a quaterback, and maade the playoffs 2 times, didnt simms lose in the first round last year, can King play any worse?
it is about time they are thinking straight!! If you give the man half the chance he could have an arm like retired Dolphins Quaterback Dan Marino.
I like Simms but I am glad King is getting a chance again.
Holy Kingster is back but lets get Gerrod from the Jacksonville that’s who we need. Shawn i don’t hate your game but your not the piece to this puzzle, sorry.
everyone are we forgetting something here Shaun is a NFL quarterback with expeirence or are all willing to take the first selection overall that is where this team is headed. help is needed take off your blinders.
HAVE FAITH IN THE PLAYERS…
BUT LETS GET A COACH THAT DOESN,T LOVE HIMSELF SO MUCH
SHIELA
We have hope now buc fans do not give up on the team the captians and other leaders are ready to go out their and get it done. And now that we have Shaun King we will be able to make a run to the playoffs we are not out of it at all especially since atlanta lost last night we need to beat New Orleans GO BUCS!!!
Noooooooooooo.......
Anybody but Shaun. The only reason we went to the playoffs was our defense, Shaun King is at best mediocre at worst he is the reason we did not get to the superbowl in 1999.
Please Shaun take your little hands that can’t hold a football and go away..
George Jones, you are ABSOLUTELY CORRECT!
What ever it takes to get out of this DITCH we are in now!!
Time to break out the old #10 again. i have faith........
sure...bring anyone but “bad johnson”
I think Jeremy F. is right. Brad Grukowski is THE MAN. Head coach Jim Grason is certainly behind him and wide receiver Jerry Gilliwig was saying nice things about him yesterday.
I DONT CARE WHO THE PUT IN. WE JUST NEED TO WIN A GAME.
Wasnt expecting to read this, but I’m very excited!!
I was just talking to the wife about him this morning. thanking i wish he was still here. wow!! what a wish come true!!
Welcome Home, Shaun! : )
I really hope they start Brad Grukowski, I think Brad can be a really good quarterback given the chance.
HELL YEAH!!
It’s about time we gave him a chance to complete his first attempt at greatness! He’s my man! I loved the fact that he had always dreamed of being a Buccaneer, and got his chance, and made such a positive impact. I hope he does as well this time.
I am also hoping for Simms’ rapid recovery!
At the rate this season is going, why the heck not???? Let’s see if this can become some great Cinderella story! Bring back the hometown hero!
