King To Workout With Bucs

TAMPA – Former Bucs quarterback Shaun King has a workout scheduled with the team for this afternoon.

King, who replaced an injured Trent Dilfer as a rookie and then led them to the NFC title game in 1999, said he will meet with the team around 1 p.m. and likely work out around 3 p.m.

“They finally called me this morning,’’ King told The Tribune. “I’m ready to go. I’m in shape and ready to help out if they need me.’’

King came into the league as second-round draft pick out of Tulane and made an almost immediate impact, starting the final five regular games of the 1999 regular season.

He remained the starter through all of 2000, leading the Bucs back to the playoffs, but the team’s loss in the first round to Philadelphia sparked a change for 2001.

As Brad Johnson’s backup, King played in just three games in 2001. He remained a backup during the 2002 and 2003 seasons but moved on to Arizona in 2004.

King last worked for the Indianapolis Colts during the preseason, but he was let go when the Colts decided to keep just two quarterbacks on their roster.

This is all funny. Get rid of Gruden!!!
Let’s be honest Tony Dungy team really won the superbowl. It was their year I could have coached and they would have still won. Secondly the (Monte Kiffin)defense has made the under-achieving offense look better for years, and oh yeah isn’t Gruden considered the offensive mastermind(yeah right) and Tony Dungy the defense mastermind(Colts score alot). Now the defense is not so hot and the offense is still cold. Please see the Truth!! Bring Shaun Bring anyone it can’t get worse. Atleast Shaun has some winning experience…

I think its great that Shaun is getting another chance, but we should not forget that we would not be in this situation if our MORON coach would not have sent Griese packing to Chicago where he now sits as a second string quarterback. Gruden has made bad decisions the last few years and this was one of them. Fire Gruden and get a better QB than Simms!

It’s great to see that Coach Gruden is considering Shaun King for a veteran backup quarterback but I honestly feel that it is all being done to appease those people who are calling for Shaun as a backup.  Gruden has had many opportunities to bring Shaun back but he has chosen not to do it.  If you look at Gruden’s coaching history as a head coach, he has not had an African American quarterback as a part of his team.  Yes, he inherited Shaun from the previous coach but Gruden didn’t keep him around very long.  It is my sincere belief that Gruden believes that there are certain positions on him team that are reserved for Blacks.  The quarterback position is not one of those.  It appears that African Americans are not intelligent enough to run his supposedly “complicated” offense.  I hope that I am wrong in my thinking.

King is the youngest & the best, I think he’ll get the job done. He did it before & he’ll come through for you.

I am glad to see Shaun back. He did a great job when he was allowed to play. We must keep in mind the Glazers make the ultimate decisions, good & bad!  I say send them away with Brad Johnson and bring back Tony Dungy, Vinny Testraverde with Shaun as backup!!!  Welcome back Shaun!!

I believe this will be a great move on the Buccaneers part, should the workout go well.  Shaune King did a good job when he was here.

What S.King will provide is a reliable backup who knows the system.  Someone who can help Gradowski(sp) understand the system.

To some of the more “waisted” posters.  A “fan” is not someone who cheers when they win the superbowl, a “fan” is one who cheers and stands behind their local team when they’re down, through the good the bad, thick and thin.

I see Browns fans who are absolutely crazy for their team, no matter what.  Here in Tampa, loose three games “OMG they suck!  Fire Gruden, Simms SUX, Glaisers sux0rz”.  It’s laughable.

Who cares!! Shaun King is just an average quarterback. The man couldn’t even win a starting job with the lowly Cardinals a few years ago. Anyone who really thinks that he could come in here and bring us to the promise land is sadly mistaken. We have many more problems than the quarterback. Our one time mighty defense has to take about 45% of the blame this year. Where have all of our defensive stars been this year? I have rarely heard anyone say “Rice”, “Brooks”, or “Barber” makes the tackle, interception, or sack. Did “Barber” even play this past sunday? All I saw was Keyshawn blow by him.

David Smith, you don’t even know what you’re saying.  It’s wasting, not waisting.  It’s raze, not raise.  Finally, it’s Glazers, not Glaisers.

I think it would be a great move to bring shaun king back for no other reason more than he knows this system,i’m sure it won’t cost much, and
what ever reason John Gruden felt rob johnson was a better choice, ask him now who would he rather have????

Let’s face the facts. the offensive has been, well....offensive. It leaks like a screen door in an afternoon Florida thunderstorm. We have all heard the old saying; “He about got killed”. Well Chris almost put the truth in that. It doesn’t matter who they bring in. They could bring in Peyton Manning and HE would get drilled just as Chris did. It is EXTREMELY DIFFICULT to run the ball and pass the ball if there is NO blocking. Secondly, Monte’s defense has not been exactly “up to snuff” either. It is certainly not in “Monte form” so to speak. Plain and simply put, both the offensive & defensive units need to kick it up, pin their ears back and mash somebody in the dirt. So far this season someone else has been pounding our rock.

Very pleased to see that Shaun is getting another chance with the Bucs.  I recently unpacked a box of pictures that had been unpacked since my last move in July 2000.  The headlines were about Shaun King on the old Tampa Tribune newspapers I’d used in the packing and I reread the article about Shaun.  I thought then that the Bucs should’ve kept him playing.  We’ll see what develops.  At least Shaun can move quickly when the defense lets him down.

At best, the season is all uphill and prolly average will be good, so---Play Gradkowski and let him have a few games to get settled. he is the answer to our future Quarterback problems. Shaun never did it for us--

I personally believe Shaun could make this work.  He has the experience and would be valuable asset to the Bucs. Prayers Answered!!!!!!!

"Bad Johnson” Are you kidding me, you’re probably right why would the Bucs want a smart, accurate passer, that would be silly would’nt it?

Sounds like a good move to me.  King has experience and is at least a servicable QB.  This season’s barely hanging on as it is.  Perhaps King can breathe a little life into it.  And, Chris, get better soon.

Hold on, Sports Fans!  There’s more to a win than just throwing the football.  Shaun may help, but where’s the defense?
