VIDEO: Accident On NB Howard Frankland
TAMPA - Gwendolyn Gainer, 28, of Orlando, was northbound on the Howard Frankland Bridge on Tuesday when her tire blew out and she tried to pull over, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The car stuck out into traffic, and a tractor-trailer driven by Ervin Stuermer, 47, of Tampa, hit it. Gainer, who had three children in the car ages 5 and under, was cited for improper stopping on the interstate.
The four were treated at a nearby hospital and released, the FHP said. Stuermer was cited for careless driving.
I’m Glad no one was hurt. Please make sure to Buckle Up… Even your children!!
I did a little research & discovered the proper name is the Howard Frankland Bridge.
Turns out this bridge was named after William Howard Frankland. Any references to Franklin are incorrect.
I had a blowout several years ago in Manatee County on I-75. I was lucky to have a wide, flat, grassy median in the direction the car wanted to go.
Aside from mowing down some grass, there was no harm to anyone or anything but my vehicle.
I can only imagine what would have happened on a bridge, especially one as crowded as this one.
Lucky people, all of them.
This is the worse road for accidents I have ever seen. There is always something on the road to swerve around, and I had to do that last Wednesday on my Harley. I failed, and ran over a Car ramp, along with Five cars. All of us received Flat Tyres… It took everything I could do to keep my Bike from taking me down. The lord was on my side! I had both Tyres replaced due to cuts from this ramp. I could have avoided this Car Ramp if I had been further back, but when ever I back off on my Bike, someone from another lane moves in front of me, and pushes me further back until I feel like I am going backwards! We all need to slow down once in a while and smell the Roses. Someone once told me… ( If you hit me on that Bike, you can’t hurt me! ) Think again! Me and the Harley weigh 1,000 Pounds… At Highway speeds, I am like a Cannon Ball coming at you. Be kind to Bikers please…
I just to live in the Tampa area, now I just visit. People there in Tampa are careless drivers, they drive way to fast. It’s no wonder State Farm Insurance won’t write policies for auto insurance there.
I had my car hit 2 times in Westshore Mall, no note, no nothing. Something has to be done.
My sincere sympathy. I drive across this bridge frequently and traffic can be absolutely frightening. The exit lane to the airport has accidents daily due to careless drivers. Completely unrelated question though. Signs for 275 state that the bridge is the Howard Franklin. Why do all traffic reports state the Howard Frankland?
AMEN!
It is so sad that the Bay area now has daily tragedies like this. I lost my best friend to a car accident 9 weeks ago, in the bay area. I am shocked when I see how crazy some people drive. I pray that this family and those involved are going to be okay. I also pray for my own children, as a mother, I worry for their safety when they are on the road. We don’t need to hear of these events everyday, please buckle up, get off the phones, turn down the stereos, and slow down. It could be our own lives we save.

I’m glad no one was hurt. When we finally drove past the car, I thought for sure there were no survivors. Unfortunately, that wreck cost me $500.00. I missed my flight, had to buy another ticket home, and missed a day’s work (and pay). We were seven miles from the airport, but couldn’t make it in time. But it could have been worse.
