TAMPA - The suspect in last weekend’s hit-and-run fatality in Ruskin was arrested Wednesday in Laredo, Texas, local officials said, The 37-year-old man faces charges of leaving the scene of an accident involving death.
Adrian Cuero, also known as Adrian Cuero-Rodriguez, was arrested by authorities in Texas after Hillsborough County sheriff’s deputies received a tip that Cuero would be there. He was arrested on a warrant charging him with driving without a valid driver’s license. Deputies said they likely would charge him in connection with the hit-and-run incident when he is returned to Tampa.
Deputies say Cuero was behind the wheel of a white Chevrolet work van shortly before 11 a.m. on Sunday and struck Cesar Cordero Gonzalez, 36, 512 Ocean Mist Court, Ruskin, while he rode his bicycle on Seventh Avenue Southwest near Castillo Road.
Cordero-Gonzalez was thrown from the bike and landed on the shoulder of the road, where he died, deputies said. Witnesses said the van continued on, without stopping.
In the days after the incident, deputies found the van, parked behind Cuero’s home at 2018 15th St. E., Lot 6 in Ruskin.
