ST. PETERSBURG - A father and daughter were wounded Thursday night when a man outside the home where they were staying shot a gun into it, St. Petersburg police said.
The names of the victims were not available, and there are no suspects in the case, said St. Petersburg police spokesman Bill Proffitt.
The father, 30, and his daughter, 8, were staying with a relative in the 800 block of 56th Ave. S. when the father heard a knock on the door at about 9 p.m., police said.
When he answered the door, he saw a black man standing there, but the man said nothing, and then the father closed the door, police said.
The black man then fired one round through the door, hitting the father in the arm, police said. The father then ran to the back of the house, and the man outside fired a bullet through a window, hitting the girl in the arm, police said.
The wounds were not life-threatening, police said.
The suspect was last seen running west across Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street. He is in his 20s, police said.
You couldn’t pay me enough money to live in St. Pete. It seems that every day St. Pete is mentioned in the newspaper and/or on the news for murders, shootings, drug deals, sexual assaults, etc. It’s terribly sad that such a beautiful area is so crime-ridden.
Brad,
While admitting that the first thing that I came to my mind after reading the article was similar to what you wrote, you don’t have enough information to *definitely* conclude that the father was in-the-wrong. There are other possibilities.
Ms. McMillan’s post was amusing but Ms. Curtis’ words are much more relevant. It’s good that the victim’s injuries weren’t worse and precaution is key.
I was assaulted by two males 4 years ago and mugged by another 6 months later. A gun was in the latter case. Both cases involved people who wanted my money. Neither case involved drugs.
Tampa Bay has a high violent crime rate. We were living at the edge of a rough area when these events occurred. We no longer live there and the events mentioned contributed to our decision to move.

Brandon,
Well, with your inside information you must either be:
A. close to the family
B. know the dealers who supply them
C. you ARE the dealer and know why you shot and ran
D. are not very smart, really don’t have a clue...and don’t mind letting it show!
(I think it’s D.)
Sue
Definatley drug deal gone bad. Way more to this than meets the eye.Don’t think dad is telling the complete truth.Feel sorry for the little girl caught in the middle of dad’s secrets.
I’m glad they were not seriously hurt. That’s why I’m always looking out my peep hole and ask who it is.... Better yet, don’t answer the door unless you know that someone is coming over! The way the world is you have to take precautionary measures.
