Don’t be completely shocked to see Harry S. Truman get at least one write-in vote today.
OK, maybe they won’t go THAT far. But the poll worker and an acquaintance found one common political bond as we - and about 10 other people - awaited our turn to enter Countryside Cathedral. Or, on this day, Precinct 622.
“If he’s on the ballot, I’m voting for Harry S. Truman,’’ he said, to a few chuckles.
“I voted for him, too, but on an absentee ballot,’’ replied the poll worker and Korean War veteran, on location since 5 a.m. to make sure things run smoothly.
Which they appear to be. The banter made for a pleasant wait during what folks working the polls are terming a “great turnout” so far. Lines moved briskly as the predominantly working-class crowd - with a few seniors mixed in - made their way in and out in less than a half-hour.
