PALM BEACH - Authorities say a sunbathing Good Samaritan died trying to save two girls struggling in the waves off Palm Beach.
Michael Sagaro bolted from his beach chair when he heard a woman screaming for help for her daughters caught in a rip tide. He was followed by his friend, Giankarlo Squicimari.
Sagaro made it back to shore with one of the girls. Squicimari held the other girl out of the water for another rescuer to grab, but the 31-year-old couldn’t make it back to shore himself.
Authorities say other beachgoers pulled Squicimari from the waves, but he never regained consciousness.
