GAINESVILLE — Spirit ran high during the hour-long “Gator Fest” which was held in the Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, affectionately known as “The Swamp.”
An estimated 70,000 fans attended the 2006 National Championship Pep Rally to show their support.
The scoreboard displayed the 41-14 victory that the Gators enjoyed over Ohio State on Mon., Jan. 8.
“It’s so exciting to see everybody here. It’s our way of giving back. We couldn’t have done it without them,” said Andre Caldwell, a Jefferson High graduate.
Another highlight of the afternoon came when 1996 national champion and Heisman Trophy winner Danny Wuerffel introduced Chris Leak to “pass the baton to the second National Championship team.”
Sun Sports will replay Fox Sports’ broadcast of the BCS National Championship Game on Sunday at 9 a.m.
