RUSKIN – In a series of early-morning raids, deputies and federal agents arrested at least 16 members of the Sur 13 gang, a group known for dealing drugs and guns in eastern Hillsborough County.

Since February, 37 members or affiliates of the gang have been arrested as part of an undercover operation, Hillsborough Sheriff David Gee said this morning.

Suspects:
> Uriel Avellaneda-Garcia
> Emmanuel Barrera
> Darius Buckins
> Marco Antonio Chavez
> Jose Louis Collazo
> Bravo Damaso
> Noemi Degollado
> David Barron Dimas
> Ramiro Tero Diaz
> Adam Ronnie Gambrell
> Anthony Lee Gambrell
> Brian R. Gambrell
> Carla Evangelina Garza
> Liza Garza
> Armando Guerra
> Sabrina Guerra
> Carlos Hinshaw
> Calvin Jenkins
> Jules Gachette
> Reina Laporte
> Antonio Manrique
> Michael Meek
> Alexander C. Mitchell
> Kelvin Murillo-Soto
> Jesus Ortiz
> Gerardo Ortiz
> Omar Perez
> Manuel Rios-Molina
> Orlando E. Rivera
> Gilbert Brauto Salazar
> Penny Jo Stewart
> James Robert Taylor
> Oscar Velazquez
> Jason Daniel Welch

Gee said the group’s members often burglarized homes, stealing weapons that they later traded for drugs.

The people arrested in the current sweep are a fraction of the gang’s estimated membership, which Gee pegged at around 160. Sur 13 members rang in ages from 10 to their mid-40s, he said.

The gang is more organized than some of the criminal groups operating in the county, but less organized than the Latin Kings, which Tampa police and sheriff deputies busted last month.

Gee said the bust of Sur 13 members didn’t net the entire leadership as the Latin Kings arrests did. At least two of the gang’s local leaders were arrested.

The gang was making a push to become more organized in recent months and was spreading to other parts of the county, Gee said.

Sur 13, which has ties to California, is an ally of the Latin Kings and another gang, the Kings Con Sueños, or KCS, Gee said.

Many of the people arrested in the sting were from California and Texas, and at least two were facing deportation. Some of the others arrested are suspected illegal immigrants, Gee said.

Gee has made gang eradication in the county a top priority, applying for federal grants and enlisting the help of other local, state and federal law enforcement agencies to help in the fight.

Are you people nuts? have these LOSERS join the Army to fight the bad guys?  come on, the majority of these LOSERS cannot read , much less absorb or comprehend the instructions on how to be a soldier.
I say put all the gangs in a secured area like a 10 squre mile area in the dessert and let them go after each other, after the dust settles, GOd will sort them out so we may then live in peace and security in OUR own towns and communities.

Watching the 6pm news and all the channels have this as one of the top three stories...however most of these thugs are already back on the streets, so thanks for trying to help Sheriff Gee...maybe if you let the Judge and state attorney know ahead of time that you were gonna round up some gangbangers....what’s really scary is one “gangbanger” had only $100.00 bond another was released on ROR, meanwhile the eldery lady at TIA had to post a $2000.00 bond for accidently leaving a gun in her purse.

I am all about rounding up the thugs and gang members and sending them to Iraq and Afghanistan, so our honest hard working citizens can come home.

As a former resident of Los Angeles, California, I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to have a strong police presence in the areas here with gang activity.  I predict we will have more community involvement once a stray bullet or two hits innocent people.  That is the REAL DANGER WITH THESE PEOPLE. A gang member standing at a bus stop, or in a convenience store, poses a greater danger than the people of the Bay Area realize.  They are constant moving targets for rival gangs, and someone who is merely in the area can be seriously hurt, or killed.  I hope the “powers that be” will agressively disarm and prosecute all known gang members starting now.

Thanks for the compliment, Lynda. Gangmembers r like terrorists. They come here from other countries and committ crimes, usually against people in their own socieoeconmic class and try to recruit new members in order to spread their power. Unlike terrorists from abroad, they actually live here and make day-to-day life unbearable for people who live around them. Theft, drug dealing, extortion and other crimes are a mainstay of their activity. We have a make believe war on terrorists made up by our President to instill fill in the electorate in order to stay inpower, while real terrorists, known as gang members actually exist. Why don’t we send these people to Guantanamo and torture them like the President insists on torturing political and religious terrorists. At the very least could we just deport them. By the way, I don’t endorse or support torturing anyone.

Now if they can just get the gangs out of the White House…

I love the “facing deportation”. What does someone have to actually do to get deported? The rap sheets are a shame and that they are still here is even more of one. Can anyone say “immigration reform”?

Wow check some of these arrest records, some of these thugs are already back on the streets. One guy was released on ROR (no bond at all) one guy’s bond was $50.00 each count. What is it are these judges afraid of these punks? Another fine example of our revolving door of justice.  zipper

Well said Duane, I never thought about gangs being terrorists, but they are. What really sucks is these thugs will probably never see the inside of a prison cell, they will get county court and serve less than a year in Hillsborough County jail, which is not a felony, but they will be back out on our streets spreading their terrorism while law abiding citizen live in fear. God Bless America!!

Deportation does not work, they will be back. unless… we execute them. then the problem is solved. suject resisted, subject is dead, it gets real simple real quik. cool grin

Now THIS is how our law enforcement should be spending OUR tax dollars!  Good Job!!

Gee ... doesn’t this make much more sense then sending deputies/officers into strip clubs and the like ... spending thousands of dollars ... to “bust” consenting adults for victimless crimes!

Let’s boot out our elected officials (Rhonda Storms and similar) who insist on moral policing and elect those who go after crime like gangs and such.

A report by an immigration reform group shows that illegal immigration costs the state of Florida at least $4.3 billion a year in health care, education and incarceration costs.

The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) predicts the state’s costs of illegal immigration will increase to nearly $8 billion a year within 10 years unless it is controlled.

Seems like the Sheriff’s Dept. finally has its priorties straight. Maybe they could use some of the manpower, time and money they have been wasting on investigating benign bikini bars and use it on infilrtating and erradicating more of these gangs which pose much more of a criminal risk to the citizens of Hillsborough County. These gangs should probably be listed as terrorist groups because they certainly terrorize communities once they become established.

Great job to the HCSO and other agencies. I realize some federal grants may have recently been awarded but since grants are not usually sufficient, why not bill the federal government more for each criminal illegal alien we arrest? That could help cover local expenses and damages we incur such as police and legal system, plus victim funds?
