And now the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office is investigating at least 12 fraudulent checks that appear to have originated from the clerk of the circuit court’s office.
Some of the checks have been cashed at local check-cashing businesses. The fraud case was discovered by a clerk’s staff member and one of the check-cashing businesses.
The checks have been duplicated by a laser printer and appear to carry the signature of Ken Burke, clerk of the circuit court. The estimated amount in bad checks is nearly $11,000. They began surfacing about a week ago.
Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at (727) 582-6346 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-8477.
