CLEARWATER - Hassan Jones, 41, of Clearwater, a former standout wide receiver for Florida State University and the Minnesota Vikings of the National Football League, was arrested on the Bayside Bridge early Sunday for driving under the influence.
Jones was speeding in a northbound lane of the bridge and was pulled over by a Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office deputy about 3 a.m., said Marianne Pasha, a sheriff’s office spokeswoman.
The deputy observed Jones and determined he should be tested for impairment, Pasha said.
Results of those sobriety tests were unavailable Sunday afternoon.
Jones, who was recently named director of charitable fundraising for Palm Harbor-based Snap N’ Sold Corp., was released from Pinellas County Jail after posting $250 bail.
In 1996, Jones plead no contest to a domestic battery charge, which stemmed from an incident at his Safety Harbor home. He paid a $150 fine and was sentenced to one year of probation.
As a fellow Gator man myself (Warrington College of Business c/o 2004), I have noticed incidents at both schools. However, do not blame the Tribune for reporting the news that they receive. I would almost take it as a compliment that my school is important enough to conjure news (of course I’m sure FSU would wish for more positive news). As the saying goes, “with great power, comes great responsibility.” Well don’t worry FSU fans, if you haven’t noticed, the once powerful FSU football time is slowly fading by the wasteside. Please note that most incidents at UF came during the regime of Ron “got the hook” Zook and his player friendly approach.
I wish all you Florida State Criminals stop crying. His alma mater was mentioned because it makes area news pertinent. What ties does Minnesota have with this region? None. One more thing, I’d like to congratulate the Cincinatti Bengals on making FSU look consistant with there NFL draft picks. Thanx to Derrick, Warrick and Charlie Ward you are only non-crack smoking, non-DUI having, I don’t beat my girlfriend player from Tallahassee.
Go Gators!
"a surprise to anyone familiar with the standards of conduct associated with Florida State University athletic program.”
I would like to know just how familiar you or anyone else adding their “expert “ opinions are with the standards of Florida State University. Really, enlighten us.

How about saying former NFL Minnesota Vicking player? Why former FSU player? He is 41 yrs old. You always hit on FSU.
Doesn’t matter if he went to FSU, played at FSU or just had an FSU shirt on when he was arrested; the notoriously Gator loving Tribune is going to plaster the news everywhere. Now, if a couple guys in Gainesville want to play with guns, throw kegs on students, threaten frat boys, deal coke, etc. its a different story. We forgive them, remember?
I don’t see the problem with mentioning the alma mater of the individual in this story. The fact that another former FSU player is in trouble with the law should not come as a surprise to anyone familiar with the standards of conduct associated with Florida State University athletic program.

Manny lets face it florida state players are in the news all the time for doing stupid things such as dui, stealing and so on. So i don’t think you should really be complaining

p.s GO GATORS!!!!!
Why not the headline “Former Minnesota Viking Arrested”? Should we look up his high school and see what high school he attended and say Former ______ High School Student Arrested. Perhaps he went to an equally notorious day care as a child. I fail to see how declaring his college in the headline in any way added to the accuracy of this news story, other than to besmirch the institution. Shame on you and your editors.

Isn’t it amazing that, according to the gader responses, not one FU player has ever been arrested? That or the FU fan base is the largest collective group of hypocrites since the crusades.
“Confronting ignorance and stupidity one mullet headed gader at a time.”
This applies especially to the Trib’s editors.
