ST. PETERSBURG - A St. Petersburg fire engine hydroplaned off Gandy Boulevard at Brighton Bay Boulevard and crashed into a pole Monday.
Christine Burroughs, an acting supervisor on the vehicle, suffered a back injury and was transported to Edward White Hospital, St. Petersburg Fire & Rescue spokesman Lt. Rick Feinberg said.
Robert Bailey, a paramedic in the vehicle, was bruised from the accident. The two other people in the engine were not injured.
Feinberg said the engine’s frame is badly damaged and that the vehicle likely is totaled. A new vehicle would cost at least $300,000 to $400,000, he said.
Florida Highway Patrol did not cite anyone for the 7:26 p.m. accident, Feinberg said.
