FHP Looking For Female Troopers

The Associated Press

TALLAHASSEE - For years, jobs as troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol was the exclusive domain of men.

Although that barrier came down years ago, only bout 12 percent of the patrol’s troopers are women.

The FHP is trying to fix that by aggressively going after women candidates.  A spokesman for the FHP says the shortage of female troopers
in Florida is most notable in the central part of the state.

The agency held a job fair in Orlando last month designed specifically to attract women. About 41 women showed up.

In general, experts say law enforcement agencies across the country are seeing lower numbers in their female ranks.

The FHP will select the most qualified candiates. Regardless of gender. Have you ever looked at the requirements listed on their website? Once selected the candiates are put thru a para-military 6 month training course in Tallahassee. I feel strongly that after the extensive training that the individuals chosen to become FHP Troopers, regardless of their gender will be appropriately trained and will do a fine job serving the residents of Florida.
