The estranged wife of a Devil Rays player Elijah Dukes today says she fears for her safety and her children’s safety.
Nishea Gilbert says Dukes is abusive and recently threatened to kill her and her children. Now she wants out of their marriage.
She says she wishes the up-and-coming baseball player no ill will, but at the same time she wants nothing to do with him.
“The family calling me telling me not to come home because they’re scared for me and the kids, Gilbert says.
“‘I’m gonna kill you and your kids. ‘ These kids are his kids too,” she says.
Gilbert is the mother of two of Dukes’ children, Shawn, 3, and Kaylee, 1.
She says she hopes her soon to be ex-husband gets the help he needs, so one day he can be there for their children. But, she adds, she believes that may be a long time coming.
