BRANDON - Who would kill 14 ducklings in a pen by someone’s house by stomping on them, and why?
That’s what Hillsborough County investigators are trying to determine after finding the dead birds early Tuesday morning in the Providence Lakes subdivision, Hillsborough County sheriff’s officials said.
Someone stomped most of Tom Breitsprecher’s ducklings to death between late Monday night and early Tuesday morning sheriff’s spokeswoman Debbie Carter said.
Three ducklings survived with broken legs and wings, but they had to be euthanized by a veterinarian. Breitsprecher said they were still peeping when he found them.
A month ago, Breitsprecher paid $80 to have four varieties of ducklings shipped from an Iowa hatchery. He planned to release them on the lake next to the couple’s home after Thanksgiving and enjoy watching them grow to adulthood, he said.
Brietsprecher said he built a small pen, and each morning he fed the birds and watched as they paddled around in a little pool.
The pen sits outside a living room window. At 11 p.m. Monday, Breitsprecher’s wife, Susie, checked the ducklings before the couple went to bed.
After waking Tuesday, the husband found the dead birds. Four were outside the pen, probably because they tried to escape, he said.
Whoever killed the ducklings faces charges of animal cruelty and trespassing, sheriff’s spokeswoman Debbie Carter said.
Breitsprecher is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the culprit, he said.

I think whoever cowerdly killed these ducks should spend the next 5 years at least in “Real” jail and have to buy the owners 14 more ducklings. This is not a joke. If they would do this to baby ducks--- what would they do to your baby or wife or mother!!!!!I would add some money to the reward----let the owned get in touch with me.Lets STOP this NOW. D. Simeone
Get some new ducklings, buy a Remington 870 shotgun and patiently wait for justice.
What kind of low life could do something so terrible, makes me sick! And how Lisa Chavez’s comment even got posted on this board is beyond me. People like her is the reason the darkness in society will never change. Totally cold and pathetic!!
I love ducks, and I hate animal cruelty. It takes a special person to stomp ducklings - at least someone that has special needs! Notwithstanding, ducks probably do not belong in a sub-division. Most covenants and declarations prohibit them, and not all neighbors appreciate subjective generousity of releasing domestic animals into a community lake. Regards, a fellow subdivision dweller.
Oh my, that is so disturbing. Someone that could commit such a terrible deed is someone who could hurt a defenseless child or senior and should not be walking freely around to do so. This person needs help badly and punishment
I would LOVE to find out who did this, and then stomp on their head for a few minutes! To hell with political correctness...this imbicile needs a taste of his own medicine!!
This will not be popular to some, but here goes anyways.
I’m fed up with these losers in our society.
Stop with the comments about jail sentences and criminals not getting enough time in jail.
START SHOOTING THEM! These low lifes have no good qualities about them, they can not function in society. They are no good to society. If these low lifes can not find a way to function in our society then they are not needed.
SHOOT THEM.
What have we become??????????
I would. I hate birds.
I think the person that did this needs to be stomped on. Let the punishment fit the crime.
What kind of human being could doing something so cruel and violent? I can not imagine what a horrible scene for these animals and the family that cared for them. This person lives in our neighborhood! I pray someone will do the right thing and give this crime the attention it deserves!
IT REALLY TAKES A SICK PERSON TO DO THAT TO POOR LITTLE BABY DUCKLINGS. I HOPE THEY GET CAUGHT SOON AND ARE PUT UNDER THE JAIL.
Who would have ever thought a 41 yr. old man would smash clown statues that were going to be auctioned off to raise money for terminally ill kids, now this. I wish we could start handing out sentences for some criminals that would give them the same actions in which they did to their victims (an eye for an eye..hey it sounded good in the Bible)
I live in Providence Lakes and hope law enforcement can find out who did it and prosecute the person (or people). How pitiful. :o(

Lisa Chavez, you are a idiot. Grow up!
I hope you don’t live in our subdivision. It was probably your punk kid who committed such a terrible act on a bunch of poor inocent ducklings.
