TAMPA - Hillsborough County sheriff’s detectives released more information on Friday about two armed carjackers targeting parts of North Tampa.
The suspects are white men in their mid-20s. One was recorded on video this week on in a convenience store at 22nd Street and Bearss Avenue. In one tape, he wore a white shirt with black stripes and a dark baseball cap. In a second video, he wore a red and black shirt with “New York 03” on the front and a red baseball cap.
Investigators think accomplices might be dropping them off at the crime scenes, sheriff’s spokesman J.D. Callaway said.
The robberies began April 12, mostly on or near Bearss Avenue. So far, seven cars have been stolen and a woman’s purse was taken. The most recent was Tuesday night when the men stole a pregnant woman’s cash and car from Somerset Park Drive.
Still missing are three vehicles: a 1996 green Oldsmobile Cutlass, tag No. P890SG, stolen April 16 from 13740 42nd Street; a 2005 black Chevrolet Cobalt SS, tag No. V876ME, stolen April 20 from 2602 Cabin Court; and a 1993 maroon Honda Accord, tag No. W49XRG, stolen April 24 from 2814 Somerset Park Drive.
Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at (813) 247-8200.
