WESLEY CHAPEL - In what police described as a cross-country case of domestic violence, a man shot and killed a woman in a Sam’s Club parking lot, then led police on a chase and into a standoff before taking his own life.

The shooting suspect, whom authorities have identified only as a man named Tracy who is in his 40s, apparently flew from Las Vegas to Atlanta, then rented a car and drove to Florida to track down his victim. He tracked her down at the shopping center, 27727 State Road 56, and shot her four times.

Paramedics found the woman dead beside a black Jaguar. Her name has not been released.

Police, meanwhile, chased the suspect across three counties, finally using stop strips to force him off the road and into a field behind a Citgo gas station in Sumter County near the intersection of State Road 471 and State Road 50.

Negotiators spent the next two hours talking to the man as he sat in his car. Police said he described the victim as his wife, but their relationship has not yet been confirmed.

At about 7 p.m., the suspect shot himself. Police said he was still breathing when they approached, but he later died.

At the shopping center, the Jaguar had been backed into a parking space. A yellow Jeep Wrangler was parked sideways in front of it. The Jeep is registered to Wendy R. Tilyou, 37, and Stephen Michael Duhamel, both of Wesley Chapel, records stated.
