TAMPA - About 50 iPhone enthusiasts lined up outside International Plaza in Tampa Friday afternoon in anticipation of snapping up one of the hot new gadgets, which finally go on sale nationwide at 6 p.m.
Mall security personnel said they let about 20 people line up just outside the Apple store inside the mall, but were keeping other patrons outside to avoid blocking mall walkways.
One of the lucky ones to be allowed inside the mall was Mike Henley, of Temple Terrace.
He said he got to the mall at 4 a.m. today.
“I’m not even a really big phone guy. I’ve got a prepaid phone now. I’m getting this for the Internet. This really is revolutionary,” Henley said.
The device will only be sold at Apple and AT&T stores, or online through Apple.
Henley said he plans to buy the $600 iPhone model with eight gigabytes and considers the expense well worth the money.
“I bet the price will come down, but I’m not waiting. I will have it today,” he said.
