ST. PETERSBURG - A 3-year-old boy was in the intensive care unit at All Children’s Hospital on Friday after he was found floating facedown in a swimming pool at his grandmother’s house, police said.
James Viera Jr. apparently had climbed back into the above-ground pool at 701 41st St. N. after he, his mother, another child and that child’s mother had gotten out, St. Petersburg police spokesman Bill Proffitt said.
Viera was wearing a vestlike flotation device, Proffitt said. Viera, who lives at 4000 Eighth Ave. N., near his grandmother’s house, could not have been in the water more than a minute or two, Proffitt said. A family member plucked him out of the water and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation before he was transported to the hospital, Proffitt said.
That poor baby. I hpoe he is going to be all right. My prayers go out to the mother, and the family.
My heart goes out to this family.
I also have a pool,
and am a grandmother to a 3 y/o
boy, that I keep 2 days a week,
at least.
There is never a moment’s peace
while he is in my care, you can
never, ever, take your eyes off
of them for even a moment.
I pray that this child does not
suffer long-term damage and that
he is doing fine.
God Bless this family.
