The Tampa Bay Lightning have placed forwards Dmitry Afanasenkov and Andreas Karlsson on waivers today in a move to clear up some salary cap space.
By freeing up around $1.2 million in salary general manager Jay Feaster may be looking to pull the trigger on a possible deal to help his inconsistent team.
Though Feaster indicated the move was made as a backup plan after defensemen Filip Kuba and Paul Ranger suffered minor injuries Thursday night, the GM also said he was close to making a trade last week before the holiday roster freeze went into effect.
The freeze, however, has been lifted and Feaster said he continues to have many conversations in order to try to upgrade his team.
