NEW PORT RICHEY - Pasco County detectives are investigating the death of a 16-day-old boy in the Virginia City mobile home park, off State Road 54.
Around 2:20 a.m. today the parents of John Philpot Jr. ran to a neighbor’s home asking for help after they discovered their newborn not breathing, said sheriff’s office spokesman Doug Tobin.
The baby was taken by ambulance to Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Preliminary information revealed the family, which included the parents, their 2-year-old child and the infant, were sleeping on the family’s couch at 4102 Las Vegas Drive when the baby apparently suffocated, possibly from someone rolling over on him, Tobin said.
“It doesn’t look like it’s anything suspicious,” he said. “No signs of neglect or anything.”
Detectives continue investigating.
