TOWN ‘N COUNTRY - An 87-year-old died Monday after she was struck by two cars on West Waters Avenue.
Hillsborough County sheriff’s deputies identified the woman as Carmen Rosa Zambrana of 8317 Woodlake Place. Deputies said she was crossing Waters shortly after 4 p.m. at River Oaks Drive. She crossed two lanes of traffic, but as she entered a westbound lane, she was struck by a 2002 Jeep driven by Christina L. Poppe, 33, of 2244 Cypress Point Drive, Clearwater.
Zambrana was thrown about 30 feet, into the path of a 2003 Toyota driven by Madeline R. Acevedo, 65, of 9504 Woodbridge Court.
Zambrana died of her injuries at St. Joseph’s Hospital, deputies said. No charges had been filed.
these people that hit her need their license taking away!!!!
I drove by this accident after it happened on Monday. I saw this frail little person laying on the pavement as people tried to attend to her. It was the most horrible thing I have ever had to witness in my life. It’s a dangerous street. But more so because people are in a hurry and there is this culture of blowing through the red lights well after the light has turned red. It’s amazing how dangerous it is to drive on the road here. How unfortunant that this woman lost her life this way. I pray that she didn’t suffer.
This area is a death trap, I’ve seen some horrific car accidents at this walmart...how many more people need to die before they state and county do something about this area? Maybe since it hasn’t effected anyone with real clout it doesn’t exist. I avoid this area at all cost...God help you people that can’t.
Tampa has the absolute most dangerous and selfish drivers in the entire country. I say this with experiance from many big cities
Exactly!!!! How many does this make now. I work on Davis Island by the Hospital, I take a shuttle and I’m dropped off by the hospital. Yes posted signs for crosswalks must stop for pedestrians. If you value your life you won’t walk thru a crosswalk around there you run. Can you imagine these are Dr’s and Nurses driving to work but they are in so much of a hurry they don’t and won’t stop. God for bid if i ever end up there for any kind of treatment.
There is no safe place to cross a street anywhere anymore here.
People do not slow down in parking lots or even in suburban residential areas, let alone on busy streets.
Heck, people in my apartment complex do not slow down and have you been to a mall lately..there is always a posted 20 MPH sign but people drive as if they are on I-75.. Sad..but it seems everyone is guilty of just being to much in a hurry to get nowhere and peoples lives are lost because of it..
Pedestrians are supposed to have the right away no matter what…
I watched a blind man at a 4 way stop with a guide dog who tried to cross the street for 10 minutes.. I inally got so Po’d that I walked into the middle of the street and made the cars stop for the man..ridiculous if you ask me..but then aggain I remeber a cop in another state gave an old lady a jay walking ticket becuase she “took to long” to cross the street..what a selfish bunch of people in our society nowadays:(
I grew up in 12 Oaks and was in town visiting a few years back when a woman was struck and killed crossing from Walmart to 12 Oaks Blvd. There is no really SAFE place to cross from the Walmart over to the other side and back.
A relative of mine happened to be driving by just after she was hit and thought it was a rug in the road. She swerved around it...looked in the rear view mirror...and realized “it” had a face! (A young kid had hit her.)
It would be nice if walkways over the streets could be put in place where there is heavy foot traffic crossing, but I do understand tax dollars would be needed, and EVERYONE would want one in their area. What to do?
Sue
How many does this make in this area? I have lost count.

I believe that if a auto hits a person crossing a street(any person) charges should be filed for manslaughter. We must have respect for peoples lives,
having said that, I believe that people walking and riding bicycles should realize that the rule of big applies and try to be careful. We need better places to walk and ride bikes because the price of gas has caused more people to be hoofing it. I realize we are all in a rush but think about the guilt of killing an old lady trying to cross a street. It lasts forever and it could be your child or mom. I know, I lost my child that way.
