GIBSONTON - Two homeless men arguing over money ended up in Tampa General Hospital Tuesday night after a knife fight ensued, Hillsborough County sheriff’s officials said.
Deputies said Michael Green, 35, most recently of 12300 Phillips Lane, Gibsonton, and John Friend, 31, most recently of 3120 Fairmont St., Stuart, started arguing at about 5 p.m. as they were drinking beer in a homeless camp in a wooded area along State Road 93A near Gibsonton Drive.
Things turned physical when one punched the other in the nose, officials said. It was unclear which man pulled out a pocket knife, but in the struggle over control of it both men were stabbed
Their brawl ended when they collapsed on the edge of the road as motorists on Interstate 75 watched, officials said. Both were flown by helicopter to Tampa General, where late Tuesday Green was in critical condition and Friend was in stable condition, officials said.
