VALRICO - A three-car crash killed one person and sent five people to the hospital Sunday night, a Hillsborough sheriff’s spokesman said.
The driver of a Subaru Forester, Natalie Roberts, hit a Mercury Mystique, which then hit a Pontiac Sunbird at Valrico Road and Landslide Drive about 7:24 p.m., said spokesman J.D. Callaway.
Mary Deruvo, 86, of Hudson, died in the crash. She is thought to have been in the back seat of the Mystique, Callaway said. The driver of the Mystique, Claude Guerrera, and his wife, Marietta, were flown to Tampa General Hospital in critical condition.
Roberts, 70, of Tampa, was taken to Lakeland Regional in serious condition.
Sunbird driver Louise Parsley and her 1-year-old granddaughter were taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital.
The cause of the accident is under investigation. The intersection was shut down Sunday night.
