With Florida about to be bracketed by a brace of storms, the National Hurricane Center says there’s a chance, though relatively small, that the entire state could see winds of 39 mph and higher by Tuesday.
There’s a chance of winds from Tropical Storm Gustav to the west and Tropical Storm Hanna to the east. You’ll notice that the Tampa Bay area has a slightly higher chance, in the 20 percent to 30 percent range, than most of Florida.
The hurricane center has used this wind-probability graphic for about three years, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen the double-barrel look before.
Go to the hurricane center site if you want to read their full explanation of this. You can cycle through the wind probabilities for each forecast period. It’s updated every six hours when the center issues a new advisory.
