A front washing over northern Florida and sparking tornado and severe thunderstorms in Georgia will keep its worst away from the Tampa Bay area today. The front will pass to the north, though a few stray showers are possible.
Folks from Hernando County north will see a bit more weather from the front, possibly some thunderstorms that could include small hail. But even the chance of those is only 20 percent, mainly running from the afternoon until just after sunset.
Eastern Polk also has a small chance for some thunderstorms this afternoon.
The main impact for Hernando, Citrus and Sumter will be high, gusty winds starting about 11 a.m. and running into the evening. The weather service issued a lake wind advisory for those counties, meaning the winds could kick up dangerous conditions on any open water.
Winds from the southeast should reach 15 to 25 mph by the afternoon and gusts could top 30 mph.
