What We Know About Ike

While it’s still too early to know what part of the Gulf Coast will feel Ike’s winds and rain...we DO know a good bit about what the storm will do over the next 24-48 hours.

- Most of the computer models agree that Ike should pass over the island nation of Cuba.  Since the center SHOULD stay over land for a good bit, the storm is expected to weaken to a Category 1 hurricane.  However, if the eye stays over water longer this weakening will not occur.

- Ike should enter the southeastern Gulf of Mexico on Tuesday.

- What happens then is still in question.  The steering currents will be light, so Ike should stay over those warm waters of the Gulf for a while and re-strengthen to a major storm.

- As you can see, most of the models continue to move Ike toward the northwest.  But there are a few that do turn the storm north earlier.

With a major hurricane in the Gulf...we all need to stay alert.  The Bay Area is NO LONGER in the cone of uncertainty.
