We’ve Got Our Tropical Conga Line

It’s the busy time of the hurricane season, and we have our conga line of storms and potential storms.

There’s Gustav and Hanna and then a couple other spots in the tropics that folks at the National Hurricane Center are watching.

In addition to Gustav and Hanna, there are three disturbances worth watching, some with more potential than others. One near Central America doesn’t have much chance of developing before it bumps into land.

Another one, about 775 miles west of the Cape Verde Islands (the yellow circle), also doesn’t show much potential, the hurricane center says.

Then there’s that tropical wave just poking off Africa (the orangy [and, yes, that is a word] circle) that forecasters say has a 20 percent to 50 percent shot at becoming more organized. But that’s a long way off.

Most of those circles don’t turn into much, but Gustav and Hanna both were areas forecasters watched for days before they grew into storms.
