Warmer Today Unless You Go North

Some slightly warmer air shuffled into the Tampa Bay area and will keep temperatures slightly higher than Wednesday’s chill. Plus, there’s no wind to make things feel like the 20s outside.

But go 50 miles north to Hernando County, and the weather service’s warning of a freeze was right on. Temperatures at the Brooksville airport fell below freezing about 2 a.m. and bottomed out about 5 a.m. at 28 degrees. By 6 a.m., it was still below freezing at 30.

Granted, Hernando County is the region’s refrigerator, and the airport in Brooksville is the ice maker. But I can personally attest as a resident, that Hernando is just flat cold. At 5 a.m. when leaving for work, I first had to pour water over the windshield to get rid of a sheet of ice. After driving about 10 miles, the windshield iced over so badly I had to pull over and pour my coffee on it. When driving to work at that time of morning, coffee is precious. I gained an understanding of why people have ice scrapers.

Anyway, Friday morning should be even warmer than today. But another dose of cooler air will move in, and the weather service says Saturday morning should be pretty much like today.

Being from the North, try putting a towel over your windshield at night before a freeze.  Morning comes and all you have to do is take the towel off the windshield and its clear!  No scrapping needed!
