Villages For Obama

It was a 90-minute ride for Robert and Rita Ridgand to get to downtown Tampa, but at least they didn’t have to drive. They rode a chartered bus from the Villages, a sprawling community at the north end of Sumter County that also spreads into Lake and Marion counties.

In general, it is a strong Republican community.

About 40 people were aboard the vehicle chartered by Villages for Obama.

And the reason the 60-something couple made the trip - besides echoing a common sentiment among the thousands who showed up that it was an event that would occur once in a lifetime?

“We’re for Obama,” Rita said. “Obviously.”
