It was a 90-minute ride for Robert and Rita Ridgand to get to downtown Tampa, but at least they didn’t have to drive. They rode a chartered bus from the Villages, a sprawling community at the north end of Sumter County that also spreads into Lake and Marion counties.
In general, it is a strong Republican community.
About 40 people were aboard the vehicle chartered by Villages for Obama.
And the reason the 60-something couple made the trip - besides echoing a common sentiment among the thousands who showed up that it was an event that would occur once in a lifetime?
“We’re for Obama,” Rita said. “Obviously.”
