Turn Around, Don’t Drown

The ”Turn Around, Don’t Drown” campaign by the National Weather Service focuses on the dangers of driving over roads covered with water.  People tend to underestimate the power of water.  Flooding kills more people each year than ANY other severe weather event. More than half of the deaths occur when a vehicle is swept downstream.

Here’s a look at the power of water:
Six inches of fast-moving water can knock over an adult.
It only takes two feet of rushing water to carry away most vehicles.

If you come to a road where you can’t tell how deep the water is...TURN AROUND, DON’T DROWN!  Be especially careful at night when your vision is more limited.

Here is video of some drivers in Pasco county not following the rules during today’s heavy rain!
