They’re Still Filling The Seats

The plaza in front of the Forum is nearly empty, with security workers and the curious outnumbering potential Obama spectators. But inside, there is still room and people are straggling in, even without tickets at this point.

There’s no telling how long folks can still get in. Security workers in the Forum will let the ones at the gate know when the house is full.

With room left in the nosebleed sections, the man has not started talking. A single television screen shows the campaign logo and music blares. It’s a large screen but wouldn’t be too big for a living room. A big living room, anyway.

There weren’t a whole lot of people around to watch it as the opening speakers began to warm up the crowd.

Most of the metal detectors have been disassembled and loaded on trucks. There were enough here to require two large Budget trucks.

Across Channelside Drive about a dozen men and women hold signs chastising the National Democratic Committee for stripping Florida’s votes in the primary election.

They hold signs such as: “Count And Honor Our Florida Votes” and “Count Every Vote.”

I’m surprised and disappointed to hear this.  Yesterday, my husband visited both the Democratic Party office on Himes and called other ticket locations and was told there were ‘no more tickets available’ Had we known or been told that there was a possibility of attending without tickets, we might have gone.  Is the large disparity between tickets given out and attendees the result of: 1. bad communication / organization on behalf of the Democrats / Obama campaign / local media; 2. just that many people that decided not to attend at the last minute even though they made the effort to pick up tickets ahead of time; 3. or did people pick up tickets that never had any intention of attending?
