In a mailer to constituents honoring veterans, U.S. Rep. Tim Mahoney accidentally included a photo of one elderly decorated veteran—but from the wrong army. The elderly man with a chest full of medals is from the Soviet Army.
A Mahoney staff member said today the inclusion of the photo was “an staff error” and apologized.
In the photo of the veteran, who’s wearing civilian clothes, there’s nothing obvious to distinguish his nationality—except that U.S. military regulations prohibit wearing decorations on civilian clothes.
But state Republican Party Chairman Jim Greer pounced on the mistake in a press release, saying, “Unbelievably, Congressman Mahoney and his staff are so disconnected with the American people that they can’t tell the difference between an American Veteran and a decorated communist veteran.”
He said Mahoney should repay taxpayers the money the mailer cost.
Here’s the mailer.

What is this guy’s staff doing? Just copying and pasting pictures from the internet into mailers? The staff probably doesn’t have the sense to check copyright laws.
