Scatterings of sprinkles already are showing up in the Tampa Bay area ahead of a cold front that should arrive today. Those little spritzes likely are just the start of rain chances for the day.
The National Weather Service sees a 50 percent chance of rain through the day, starting about midmorning and lasting until about dawn Tuesday. There’s even a possibility some thunderstorms could be tucked in among the showers.
The best chance for the thunderstorms should be from about 2 p.m. to just after midnight today. No surprise; that’s the same time you might get the heaviest rain.
At least the forecasters don’t see much chance of those thunderstorms turning violent.
Since we’re in late April, the cold part of the cold front isn’t exactly frigid. No need to drag out sweaters Wednesday morning, but you will notice a difference—and maybe a 20-degree swing from this morning’s low at Tampa International Airport of 73 to the 50s the weather service says we’ll see Wednesday.
The daytime temperatures won’t be that much lower, maybe shaving a few degrees from what we’ve been seeing, though you might notice the lower humidity for a day or so. It’s not going to last.
And the weather service is talking about another cold front coming through during the weekend, but the models seem a bit perplexed about whether it will show up.
