The season’s 13th tropical depression has formed over the Bay of Campeche between the Yucatan and mainland Mexico, and forecasters at the National Hurricane Center believe it’s close to becoming a tropical storm.
The low pressure area became better organized Monday, though forecasters had been watching it since the weekend.
If the depression does turn into Tropical Storm Marco, it probably won’t last long. Forecasters expect it to hit Mexico on Wednesday. But before it reaches land, the depression will travel over some nice, warm water. And with winds at about 33 mph, just below tropical storm strength, it’s almost a sure shot to become our 13th storm.
The depression is moving west about 8 mph, and forecasters think that path will continue until landfall.
There’s also a low pressure area in the Atlantic about 300 miles southwest of the Cape Verde Islands but at the moment doesn’t seem to be raising blood pressure much at the hurricane center. Forecasters give it a low potential to develop.
