Randolph Interested In D56 Opening—If There Is One

East Hillsborough businessman and Democratic Party activist James Randolph has told other Democrats he’d like to be the party’s nominee for the District 56 state House seat being vacated by Trey Traviesa—if the party gets a chance to appoint a new nominee.

That, of course, would depend on the party finding a way to remove from the ballot the name of Lewis Laricchia, a Valrico man who’s running as a Democrat but not considered likely to mount a strong campaign.

Randolph, a North Carolina native and Navy veteran, formerly worked for IBM before moving to Brandon in 1993 and starting a computer consulting business. He’s been active in the East Hillsborough County Democratic Club.

In an email to friends Tuesday, Randolph said, “I had targeted this seat for a run at it in 2010. If I can get my name in early all the better.”

Ruskin civic activist Mariella Smith, on the other hand, said she can’t run because she lives outside the district.

I first met James when he came out to wave signs with a group of Democrats in Brandon back in 2004.  James was very instrumental in the establishment of the East Hillsborough County Democratic Club (EHCDC) back in 2006, where he also served as President.  He continues to be involved in the club and is a real asset. You won’t find a more dedicated man than James Randolph.  I’m Angie Angel, Director of Membership for the EHCDC, and I endorse this man and his message!

I have known and worked alongside of Mr. Randolph over 4 years, and it will be hard to find someone with his leadership and business skills that can bring back the economy to the district. It would be shame not to take advantage of such forte and strength.

I know Mr. Randolph well..They would be fortunate to have a man of his talent and energy.
