A small group of anti-abortion protesters have been dogging Rudy Giuliani during his bus tour of Florida, seeking to disrupt events or at least get some attention.
Giuliani’s pro-choice stance on abortion has been viewed as a problem for him in getting the Republican presidential nomination. When asked about the issue, his response is that he will appoint “strict constitutional constructionist judges” to the federal bench.
When Giuliani held a meet-and-greet for supporters at the Bay House restaurant in Naples a few minutes ago, the protesters showed up, as they did at several events in Southeast Florida yesterday, the kick-off day of his tour.
There were only three individuals in Naples, but one used a bullhorn to shout, “Giuliani is a baby-killer” and “Giuliani’s not a Republican” through the door leading into the event for a few seconds until campaign security guards and local sheriff’s deputies ordered them to retreat. They continued shouting as they backed away through the restaurant parking lot.
Confrontations between the protesters and Giuliani supporters were more dramatic yesterday, approaching physical confrontation, as supporters tried to block the protesters from shouting slogans by standing in a line closely in front of them and holding up signs blocking their faces.
