For the fourth time in this presidential campaign season, instant polls by networks after a debate suggest the Democrat won—in this case Barack Obama—despite pundits refusing to make such a strong statement.
-- A CBS poll of uncommitted voters called it an Obama victory by 53 percent to 22 percent, with 24 percent saying it was a draw.
-- A CNN poll gave it to Obama by 58-31 percent
A confident explanation by Steve Hildebrand, deputy Obama campaign manager, who’s working out of the campaign’s Tampa office: “Pundits want to see this race competitive to the end,” but “when there’s a spread that big it’s pretty clear.”
