Tired of being bashed by John McCain on energy and oil drilling, Barack Obama is hitting back with a new ad and events at gas stations across the country, including Tampa.
At noon today, Obama supporters including City Council member Mary Mulhern will gather at Tampa Amoco at 2202 E. Fletcher Ave. to hand out literature about Obama’s energy plan. The campaign is putting ads at gas stations as well, campaign spokesmen said.
Earlier this week, Obama put out a new television ad called “Pocket,” emphasizing contributions to McCain from oil industry executives and employees, and a tax break Obama says McCain is proposing for oil companies. A new ad, showing at the gas stations, seeks to link McCain to higher gas prices in much the same way that McCain blamed Obama for high gas prices in an ad last week.
McCain’s proposed tax cut isn’t specifically a tax break for oil companies, but a corporate tax cut that would affect oil companies along with all other corporations.
Obama himself has also received oil industry-related contributions, though not nearly as much as McCain, and has said he’d be open to a corporate tax cut. But he has also proposed a new economic stimulus plan funded by a windfall oil profits tax.
Obama made energy the theme of events yesterday in Ohio and today in Indiana, and has compiled his proposals on energy into a “New Energy for America” on his website, here.
