Nelson’s first ad goes up

Sen. Bill Nelson has released the first TV ad of his re-election campaign, a positive, “introduction”-style spot.

The ad is Nelson’s first answer to weeks of attack ads launched against him by independent political committees. The campaign said it has a “multi-week” statewide buy for the spot, but didn’t say how much it’s spending.

You can see the ad here.

It talks about Nelson from his youth, and cites some of the issues he’s worked on in the Senate and Congress.

The ad never mentions his GOP opponent, Rep. Connie Mack IV, but some of its biographical details seem designed to invite contrast with Mack, saying Nelson “learned responsibility at an early age, paid his own way through school, served his country, married Grace, raised a family. Forty years later they’re still together.”
