Kareem Young and his mother, Lena Young-Green, were among the platoon of local volunteers who showed up to help with the crowd. Their job was to walk the endless line and get people to register to vote.
In about 15 minutes, Kareem, 33, registered a half-dozen new voters. He skipped work as a property manager to be there.
“There comes a time when you can work every day. But this is a once-in-a-lifetime event,” he said.
“We need change in this nation,” he said.
Mother and son both were not sure if they would have been outside the Forum today had Hillary Clinton been appearing instead of Obama.
Young-Green, 61, has been active in local politics in Tampa, but working for Obama was a special draw, she said.
